Orthodox shrines of Istanbul
Blachernae, the iron church, the Patriarchate: five hours through the Orthodox city.
Two days through rock churches and monastery valleys, from Göreme to Selime.

A two-day private programme that reads Cappadocia not as scenery but as the ground where the early centuries of Christianity were lived. The first day opens on the Göreme panorama, then the Göreme Open-Air Museum with its rock monasteries and frescoed churches, the Church of St John the Baptist at Çavuşin, the churches cut inside the columns of Paşabağ, Devrent, the Three Beauties and Ortahisar Castle. The second day begins at the Uçhisar panorama, descends into the Derinkuyu underground city, follows the Ihlara valley past the churches of St Daniel and St George, and closes at the rock-cut Selime Cathedral and Pigeon Valley. A third day can be added: the Church of Sts Constantine and Helen at Mustafapaşa, the cave churches of the Soğanlı valley, the Church of St John at Gülşehir with its red and yellow frescoes, and Ürgüp, known in earlier centuries as Prokopion, where St John the Russian lived. The guide is chosen for knowledge of Orthodox tradition, and liturgy and visiting hours shape the order of the days. Museum and site entrance fees are quoted separately.
